‘When the cancer got to his throat he could no longer talk but he wrote a note and gave me some money….not a lot but some. 

He asked me to make an album of his favourite songs. All the great artists we used to listen to in his saab 900. Townes Van Zandt, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley. 

I drank the money away to lose the ease the pain of losing him. He died 6 months after the terminal diagnosis. 

It took me a long time to get past the shame I felt. They say grief shows up as your least favourite emotion. 

10 years on, and lots of therapy, I’m ready to make his album and share it. 

And I’m going to call it ‘songs for my father’. I’ll release it on Father’s Day (June 16th).
